  6. Four (Acts of Love) actually consists of three “acts.” Groups of four or five songs segue into one another, with a couple of them repeating later in the album with “before” and “after” lyrics. The whole thing comes off a bit like a series of monologues or soliloquies from a play, because the songs focus on the lyrics and they typically wrap up once Harvey finishes singing his piece.

  7. Indeed, “I Wish That I Were a Stone” could be “Born to Run” if the latter had been 1 minute 34 seconds long and drained of its self-important pomposity. Although around half the running time of ‘Four (Acts of Love) originated from other writers, Mick Harvey has woven together a unique and emotionally engaging album that is entirely.

  8. Harvey’s last album, ’s Sketches From The Book Of The Dead, was a series of ruminations on people and places lost, and there’s a similar delicate beauty to FOUR (Acts Of Love). However, the erstwhile Nick Cave and PJ Harvey alumni only rarely mines richer seams of optimism in this song cycle themed around romantic love.
